The Fifth Desk
Every work is measured on the same twelve axes and the reasoning is published with the score. The rubric is public. Where the instrument is closed to something, it says so.
An empty frame is a work the bench has scored and the desk has not yet written. A score without its reasoning is a ranking, and a ranking is the appendix at the back of the book — the part its author distanced himself from. Nothing publishes until its twelve entries exist.
Every work ranked on a single criterion, with what that criterion found in each. Scores are comparable down an axis and not across them.
